Introduction of new regulations, translation to your organization

New regulations can be complex. What exactly does it mean and what does it mean for your organization. With a background at a classification society, I have gained much experience with regulations over the years, especially when it comes to interpretation and finding the balance between practical implementation and the smooth passage of inspections / audits by inspection authorities.

ISM, ISPS, MLC management & compliance in general

Drafting good procedures is not an easy task. My approach is to work from the end user’s point of view, so that its application is as close as possible to the (main) activities. Furthermore, I like to keep it simple and concise, in my experience the most important factors for successful implementation and use.

I can set up systems, organize certification, manage an existing system or carry out QHSE and compliance management in whole or in part.

CO2 reduction
(EEXI, CII)

Many ships must (will) comply with Energy Efficiency for Existing Vessels and/or the Carbon Intensity Indicator. If you need support in creating a technical manual or brainstorming about the possibilities to comply, I can certainly contribute. I am happy to drop by to indicate what is going on in the field of energy efficiency, both within the EU and at the IMO.

Energy transition

The goals related to climate change have a major impact on shipping.

Some examples of regulations that apply:

IMO

EU

What does this mean for you? What options are there? Are alternative fuels an option, or perhaps an intermediate form?

I would be happy to visit you to explain more about the above topics and to hear about your ideas.

Introduction of new regulations, translation to your organization

Prescribing a procedure or working method is one thing, but its successful implementation often requires the most effort. Especially if this takes place remotely / on board. Generating support, explaining the why and a good integration into the daily work are prerequisites for this success.

It may also be that there is a need to introduce improvements that are more focused on cultural aspects, for example to create more safety awareness and to embed this in the way of working.

Special projects

Often special projects come as an addition to the daily operations and are not necessarily your company’s core business. It requires special knowledge, focus and a more project-based approach. A dilemma for many companies to incorporate it in the activities with the current staffing.

With my extensive experience in shipping, I have supervised several special projects, both from class- and shipowner’s side.

Do you have a specific project where you could use my support, I’d love to drop by!

Management of product certification for suppliers

Do you have a product for the Maritime Industry and does it require certain certification? Do you have difficulty drawing up the correct documentation or determining which tests are to be carried out in order to be certified? What requirements are applicable for your business operations and / or the production process in order to certify the products, for example according to the EU Marine Equipment Directive?

If you can use support for this or if you want me to take care of the entire certification process, let’s get in touch!

Jurriaan Guljé

After having spent some time at sea as Maritime Officer, I held various (management) positions in the maritime sector, both at a classification society and at a shipping company/maritime service provider. I am capable of putting myself in the position of the customer and I enjoy finding solutions that fit in well with the practice and core activities of a company. I enjoy working with people and I am convinced that the social component is indispensable to achieve goals, also in shipping
